Lycopene belongs to the large group of carotenoids, which are found widespread in nature. The most well-known natural source of Lycopene is tomatoes. Lycopene is a physiological antioxidant and has gained significant commercial interest, as many studies have indicated that it promotes a healthy prostate. Studies have also indicated benefits for a healthy heart as well as prevention against breast cancer. While Lycopene provides a brilliant reddish colour, it is not yet approved as a colorant in most countries. Therefore, for the time being, the main segments are dietary supplements and health foods.
